A few months ago I visited Taronga Zoo as part of the Kidney Health Australia youth event.
Taronga comes from the Aboriginal word which means “beautiful view” referring to the land the zoo is situated on which provides stunning views of Sydney Harbour.
We first visited the seal show which was amazing and so funny. The seals were all so cute and each seal had a unique backstory.

Then we went around saw the monkeys, gorillas and giraffes. There was a lot of uphill walking and as it was around midday we were getting a bit tired so we stopped for lunch at the zoo cafe. For lunch there was an assortment of food in the cafeteria.

Finally saw the lions. There were four of them huddled together which was such a spectacular sight to behold.
Lastly finished off with the bird sanctuary. There were so many birds with different types of colours, mating calls and foliage.

It was a great trip and 10/10 would recommend.

Here are some of my thoughts about the overall experience:
Travel:
While my mum drove us there from public it took us approx 1 hr from Parramatta if driving.
Dress for outdoors:
Light jacket, sunscreen, hat, stretch pants and sneakers. The zoo can get very hot when walking around all day and weather can be unpredictable.
Look up map beforehand, plan routes carefully. There is a lot of walking in between enclosures so plan ahead so you can see as many animals as possible on the way.
Food and Drink is expensive. Eat beforehand or pack sandwiches if possible the night before. There are plenty of picnic spots however dining inside can be quite hectic.
Lastly enjoy yourself and take it at your own pace. The whole experience can be overwhelming at times, so it is important to take it one step at a time.
Enjoy each moment, be prepared for the fatigue, the misguided moments and the difficult parts. Take breaks and enjoy them. This can seem challenging but it is key to having a great time.
If you are visiting Taronga Zoo hope this little review was helpful.
With love
