A few days ago I had a mini procedure, I had a skin cyst removed from my eye.
I wanted to take this opportunity to also write a about the importance of eye health for kidney transplant patients.

Transplant patients are at risk of eye conditions due to:
- infection
- diabetes
- retinopathy
- dry eye disease
- optic nerve atrophy
- Corneal Conjunctival Calcification
- Epiretinal Membrane
- cataracts
Immunosuppressant Medications are used to prevent organ rejection.
All of these can have ocular side effects. Some of these drugs include:
- Tacrolimus
- mycophenalate mofetil (MMF)
- prednisolone
Other Pre-existing Conditions
•
Kidney disease itself
• Infections after Transplant
• Poor Kidney Function:
The procedure was booked at the Eye Clinic at Westmead Hospital.

Once I was called, the nurse asked me to read the letters on the board.
It was really busy and there were lots of people before me.
We then went to Zouki, the hospital food court and had lunch.
I had a pesto sandwich and milk. Then headed back to the eye clinic.
Waited another hour and we were called in.
Dr Q took some photos of my eyes, ran through my medications, symptoms and the procedure with me. I then signed the waiver form. She then flipped my eyelid to look inside. This part was super uncomfortable 😣
Then she put eye drops and left to get the room ready. Once inside I was asked to lay flat on a chair. Another doctor came inside to help Dr Q.
Then a needle with local anaesthesia was given in my eye. This was the worst part.
They then cut away the lesion, and applied an antibiotic ointment. Everything was all done in approx 1 hour.
I felt a little lightheaded, so we headed for an early dinner at the food court at Carlingford. Had some great duck noodles and chow mein 😋

If you are a kidney patient or someone having any eye procedures, hope this was insightful.
Thank you to my mum for being there and holding my hand.
Many thanks also to everyone else who reached out, messaged me and showed support online.
Much love
