Navigating the World of Livestreaming

My first month streaming

Soo it’s been approx a month on the streaming app Favorited and I wanted to write a little about my experience and also provide a feedback/advice for anyone else who may wish to begin the streaming journey.

This is all stuff I wish I had known before I had started

  1. be prepared, prepare to fail

Preparation is key, not just for the stream but also mental preparation that the stream and outcome may not always be what you had hoped for.

Streaming is notoriously erratic. It may be that you begin on a ‘high’ joining with lots of followers or gifters however this plateaus.

Be prepared for this. There will be dips and many slow days. Sometimes more slow days than good ones especially in the beginning when you are just starting.

  1.  It is a good idea to centre your stream around a theme

Whether you be an aspiring poet, writer, artist or baker having something small to do is essential in keeping the audience entertained and engaged.  My livestream is a general livestream in which I also create art.

Streamers will play or ‘battle’ another person. However during the movements between battles it is good to have activities.

  1. Everyone is…unique

Be prepared for unique experiences as well as different people and personalities. Social media etiquette is key. People can behave very erratically or even unpleasantly on social media.

Be wary and avoid giving out personal information – including phone numbers etc.

If you want to chat offline use a social media/chatting app eg Instagram, Snapchat or Discord

  1. It is okay to avoid volunteering information.

Understand issues such subtle racism, ageism are still prevalent and unless people specifically ask you about your age, ethnicity it is ok to avoid revealing any extra information.

  1.  Network with other streamers

Favorited app has features such as boxes which allow users to come on screen together, similar to a zoom call. This is great way to chat, meet others and gain followers

Lastly have fun!

It can be quite stressful and challenging at times but it is important to keep going. Do not get into the mentality of comparing yourself to others, their followers or their looks, etc.
