This year I went to the annual Kidney Health Australia Escaper Camp

Kidney Health Australia is an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of kidney patients, through support programs, engagement activities and community awareness.

This year the camp was held at the Y Camp Yarramundi over 2 days.

Day 1

Getting to camp is relatively easy. I met up with another attendee at Blacktown station and carpooled there.

Morning

The morning consisted of an introductory/getting to know you session. We then separated into 2 groups and went to the outdoor activities.

First activity: Cave Exploration

The first activity was the cave exploration in which we were asked to explore/crawl in the dark through metal sheds simulating a cave environment.

Personally I struggled with this activity. I went in and felt very claustrophobic, and came out.

However it was still super enjoyable sitting and hanging out with the fellow campers outside ☺️

We then headed back for morning tea. Morning tea was coffee, biscuits and crackers.

Afterwards we were assigned our rooms/cabins.

The cabins were modest, clean and up to 4 people could fit in per room. Each cabin had 2 bathrooms.

Afternoon

After morning tea the groups switched over and did the second activity.

Second activity: Giant Swing

The second activity was the giant swing.

A person was harnessed to a giant wire, while the rest of the group pulled the rope underneath to lift them up. A few others would also move the ladder.

They then unclipped themselves from the wire and would ‘swing’ similar to a bungee.

When my turn came, I got stuck while trying to unclip myself.  Finally managed on the third go.

It was super fun and a really unique experience 😃

After the second activity we headed back to the centre for lunch

Lunch

For lunch we made wraps. There was gluten/regular options for tortillas, salad, chicken, cheese, sauces and fruit.

After lunch the groups switched over again. This time the third activity was archery and then there was an hour free time until dinner.

I was feeling a bit tired after the activities and deduced to leave early. On the way back I took the train. Very convenient and affordable via public transport as well. Richmond station is a 10 min drive to Yarramundi. Approx $20 if taking an Uber or cab from Campsite.

The camp was a great experience. It was loads of fun doing the activities, catching up and sharing experiences.

Look forward to next time,

Love
