Yum Cha Review

on

Yum Cha means ‘drink tea’ in Cantonese while dim sum means ‘touch the heart’

Both refer to the small afternoon meals eaten in accompaniment to a pot of steaming hot tea – usually oolong or pu’er

Apparently, the Chinese used to have a yum cha culture which evolved from having small bites to tea and meals at tea houses.

This weekend we went for Yum Cha at Parramatta Leagues RSL.

Location wise Parramatta Leagues rates 9/10.

Super convenient and accessible by public transport from both the Western Suburbs and CBD Sydney. It also has ample on site parking.

The Yum Cha is upstairs, one level up from the casino area.

Going in, we were asked to sign in and present our drivers license and given a recipient.

We were seated towards the end and the restaurant was extremely busy so highly recommend booking in advance.

We ordered

prawn parcels

prawn hargow

sticky rice

sesame prawn toast

chicken mince fried dumplings

lobster tails

Mango pudding

Overall the steamed dishes: sticky rice and prawn hargow came out on top scoring an 8/10

The lobster was unique and prawn parcels were nice however they were slightly cold – may have been prepared earlier during the day and we had to ask for them to be reheated.

The mango pudding was quite rich and creamy but a little synthetic tasting so gave this a 6/10.

The service was also a bit slow with things such as table water, sauce, additional cutlery and there was a slight lack of staff.

Total cost for 3 people came to $110.

Overall I would recommend heading to this place for an end of year office party, with colleagues or friends, as it is super convenient (very easy to coordinate with large groups) and the meals are best enjoyed with lots people.

Great location for people coming from the western suburbs and it is fairly reasonably priced.

Afterwards we headed to Harris Park for dessert.

We visited SweetLand Patisserie Harris Park.

They have a  huge variety of middle eastern sweets and custom cakes.

We bought a half kilo of baklava which was gift wrapped as a housewarming gift and few individual Saragli baklava to sample.

The baklava was very nice, super flaky, crisp and not too sweet. Price was very reasonable.

10/10 would recommend ❤

What are your favourite dishes to try at Yum Cha?

What’s your go to sweet treat?
