It is now 35 degrees in November and I am preparing for summer.

Here is my guide for navigating a transplant in the summer.

Maintaining fluid balance

The heat tends to cause swelling especially on hot days. Couple this with tropical climates and issues such as insect bites can lead to stomach face, legs feeling bloated with hot, itchy flaky skin.

Drinking water is key in maintaining fluid balance and reducing bloating. (Check with health provider if you are on a fluid restriction)

To combat this:

Keep cool as much as possible

Take a ‘kit’ in your bag or backpack with the following:

water

antihistamines

hand sanitiser

Imodium (heat can cause gastro intestinal issues)

paracetamol

lip balm

Sanitary napkins/underwear

Flushable tissues (or toilet paper if travelling and using public without proper facilities)

Crackers or veggie chips as a snack

best of luck to everyone surviving summer
